Head received - unlike in the ebay ad, this is a recon head - 'brand new' can mean reconditioned? How will this affect lifespan? Surely adding risk here, for a £130 saving. Future buyers beware.

But it looks in good nick, and if I end up keeping it after closer inspection, fitting hopefully planned for this weekend.

Belt, bolts are FAI. Head set/gasket is Camtec.

Maybe they need to provide the evidence that reburbished old heads (they accept cracked ones also i see) are as good as new ones? Also, does the new head have the required bleed hose fitting as i seem to recall something about Ranger heads being slightly different in that respect and this vendor doesn't seem to be differentiating between the two.

You're right. But I didn't buy from the ebay ad, so I might have succombed to ordering outside of the ebay system, exposing myself to a few foibles like this. Will give him a call before fitting it, see what he meant by it all. There's a notice about their recon processes included (pressure testing, skimming, cleaning), and they seem a professional outfit, with great ebay feedback, so will check how I've paid the same for a 'Brand New' (£395) and got a recon. Bearing in mind that it looks very well done at first sight, with all new seals etc. and I can actually now fix the Bongo if I choose not to quibble over this too much.

Do you mean the water elbow on the head? I think he was aware of the difference when we spoke over the phone, and it looks to be the same one - will triple check shortly.

Head will probably be OK they have a good rep.
If you contacted them and bought from the an ad Ebay or not and the vendor did not tell you that what you were receiving was anything other than that advertised you will have redress.
You could insist on a partial refund because the value of a recon is not the same as new and issue a money order against them if they did not its simple to do and all done on line.
In any case they should be put on notice that you are far from happy.

There is no such a thing as a Ranger head and a Bongo head, they are in fact the same head for the WLTD Engine, they may have an extra adapter or two fitted for various reasons .

I think they do make that clear in their ebay advert. I seemed to recall though some people ending up with heads that didn't have the bleed hose adaptor which is why i thought it might be helpful to flag up a possible issue.

May Have been a big typo or limited stock as almost everything else he sells is re-con.
Only neg feed back I can see is for a perished rear main oil seal, seems unlikely that he would sell a perished one. Thinking on that I have never seen a "perished" oil seal!

Umbongo and I have had a good look over today, with him sacrificing his extremities to the cold. He reckons it's a newly machined head, only recon aspect being the cam/valves etc. - does that make more sense in the context?

We weren't able to get as far as bolting it down because of (d):

a) missing stud from earlier sheer-off on the turbo manifold (also need to remove a few more from old head)
b) sensor (coolant?) snap off, not sure what to re-order yet
c) dowel on the cam missing/won't come off old head easily
d) o-ring on oil feed on block has perished -> no replacement to hand

Will also need torque settings for glow plugs, if available. A new oil filter and vac hoses are also to go on order (found both for £5 on ebay).

If anyone can advise on the coolant sensor before I go off hunting, the dowel on the cam or any o-ring on block specifics, I'm all ears.

So will get that lot in, hopefully on order tomorrow, and then get back to fixing down.

we are re-using the originals, so no "Packets" for reference!

Spoke to CH supplier for a bit more info, if anyone can add to it it'd be appreciated:

He says these are m8 125 - trying to track them down now.

Still looking this up, one on the side, not top.

This does pull out, apparently. Put rough end in the other way, he says.

Standard o-ring... to ebay.
