Headlights
Hi all,
Just picked up my bongo 1995
runs beautifully, everything working, roof, mirrors, radio interior stuff side lights indicators , new battery and very pleased BUT
no headlights !!!!!
looked at the fusebox by the battery terminal with four fuses
100amp 30amp 30amp and I think 20 amp
No 100 amp fuse......................any clues
Also looked for the relay to the right of bonnet and can only see one not the four on previous posts
In the dark (literally)
any help appreciated

Re: Headlights
Er ? Are you sure your not mistaking the "spare" position ?
The 100 Amp fuse is the Master fuse for MANY circuits! See the Wiring manuals / Fuses / Lamps page for more details!
By the way the 100Amp fuse is BOLTED in position in order to carry the possible current ....

Re: Headlights
Have you tried dip then main, then flash?
It has been known for both bulbs to fail. Is there power at the plug to bulb?
Do check all four, ie dip and main each side.

Re: Headlights
You guys are so helpful
Im going to try replacing the bulbs and checking power to the connector first off, could be as simple as two blown bulbs on dip and main,
The only other clue is that when the switch on the stalk is on the main beam (blue light) is on whether you dip, flash or have it in the main beam position.
Loving everything else, talk about playtime......................just a bit annoying cause wanted to go out tonight but hey, its a fun thing that's for sure

Re: Headlights
Bulbs can easily be checked with a meter or bit of wire on the battery before you spend money.

Re: Headlights
Sorry, i'm baffled. You just bought a Bongo whose headlights don't work?

Re: Headlights
If as you say
is missing then the relay that operates the headlights has no power to operate so even if the lamps are blown you will still not see them come on!"No 100 amp fuse......................any clues"

Re: Headlights
Sort of Mike, the old boy had it since import and I got it for a very good price with tons of history etc and long MOT but I was on my own with it because he's in a pretty bad place with a nasty recent disability and couldn't even show me round it........he's got enough on his plate to be honest and if I have to spend a bit to sort the lights I'm happy enough with the deal to do that.mikeonb4c wrote:Sorry, i'm baffled. Re: Headlights
Well, don't know whether to be pleased or not.
Checked all the things, bulbs ok, struggling to find the relay doesn't appear to be on the bulkhead so that's a bit
Started this morning first turn of key and wallah, headlights working, the one's a bit dim but main and dip and flash fine...............
off to the seaside for first jaunt, still come back before dark though just in case

Re: Headlights
A 1995 diesel doesn't use a relay for the headlights, the relay only came in from the 1997 versions.

Re: Headlights
Did you have tail lights working when the fronts were out?redcastle wrote:Well, don't know whether to be pleased or not.

If not it could well be the switch is a bit dickky/dirty, try a drop of switch/contact cleaner from an aerosol (maplins) in the switch mechanism.
Fingers crossed.

Re: Headlights
Sorry just re read your first post and can see you did have tails, still be worth a try though.
Re: Headlights
Did you find the solution to this fault in the end? My bongo is doing exactly the same thing!
