Cabin light dull

Post by janie » Tue Dec 27, 2016 10:03 pm

Hi everyone,

hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

My cabin light(in the back) is not as bright as usual. The battery is charged and solar panel working. Do I need a new a new bulb and if so any recommendations.

Happy New year xxxx

Most likely battery voltage is slightly down due to cold weather.

Worth trying it with the engine running or a charger attatched before you spend any money.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Could also be dirty switch contacts or lamp socket worth cleaning the lamp contacts as well.

Not sure about the scientific facts but fluorescent tubes seem dimmer when cold. In winter, ours takes a while to get properly bright, presumably as it warms up.

remove the cover, carefully if its cold, then grab the tube gently with the light bulb lit and roll it it round slightly then back again, this helps the pins on the end of the tube clean the contacts in the light unit. remember there is a small delay as it lights up.

that was all mine needed......10 years ago. Almost makes you wonder how/why it became dull in the first place

Interesting thread, I normally just hit mine until it gets brighter - now I know what to try instead!

Interestingly an old class mate was putting in a new door and frame for us just last week.

Over lunch the conversation went round to our 'Old school days' and I pointed out to Sue its 'Just like listening to me, I didn't make this up'.

We were the first comprehensive year and didn't enjoy it.
