Rear heater matrix

Am I correct in assuming the rear heater matrix is constantly in the coolant loop and just baffled off when not required?

On a similar topic is it possible to by-pass the aircon front evaporator/compressor?

Yes, but you would lose all AC as the compressor is used by both front and rear evaporators
Or do you mean just the front air con internal evaporator. If yes, then that is perfectly possible but you would need to bridge between the LP and HP pipework and they are different sizes.
Not sure if there is something out there to do this or if it would have to be made up though.
