Trusted garage or bongo friendly one?

Post by andyfb78 » Wed Feb 07, 2007 1:30 pm

Hi,

It's time for a service (well next month),
and it's the first service whilst in our care.

I use a garage down the road for my MX5 and have done for a few years, the guy is brilliant, helpful, well priced (CVR in coventry 02476 687 569 ask for mike if anyone's looking).
But should I use him or would it be better to go to a bongo friendly garage from the club list?
I like to give good people my business, they desrve it, and i'll pay a bit more where necessary, we need as many of them to survive as possible, so I would like him to do it, but are there any pitfalls that he might fall into?
your advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Andy

He shouldn't have any problems on a normal service, although it might be worth checking if he wants you to get the filters.
The main problem is knowing how to bleed the cooling system, but this isn't normally touched in a service.

There are far more complicated vehicles out there than the Blongo that your chap has no doubt worked on, some forumites on here who dont appear to know the front from the back seem to have no trouble.

If you've found a goodun I'd stick with him.

I always check the antifreeze on a service anytime of year, and top up if needed or if very weak let the old out and new in, so it is possible he will disturb the cooling system.

Nothing wrong with printing out the factsheet and giving him a copy, could also mention the small fuel filter as pipe enters pump, this usually gets overlooked. Other than that easy peasy.

O better still if you can get hold of the Workshop Manual instructions on bleeding the coolant system, as they are more detailed than the BF factsheet I'm told.

thanks peeps, I'll stick with him then. good.
As you say, it's a machine, anyone who understands machines properly, understands machines...

I've got the workshop manual from the club, and I'll print the factsheet on the cooling...

I'll discuss filters etc with him and see what he says. I did that when he did the bushes on my MX5 so he will be fine with that.

Cheers
