Help!!! Drivers window stuck down.

Post by campergeek » Sun Nov 06, 2016 3:32 pm

Bit of an emergency - the switch on the drivers side window has been dodgy for a while, but has now completely failed with the window down.

Does anyone know the wiring, or point me to a diagram so that I can make the correct connection to get the window back up. Then I can order an new switch.

Thanks!

Probably the loom where it goes from the A pillar into driver's door.

Strip off insulation and you'll most likely find the break.

Just solder in 2 or 3 inches of new wire.

Unlikely to be the switch.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Pretty sure it's the switch. It died before, and I replaced with an aftermarket switch a year or two ago, which has started acting up in the last few weeks. Wouldn't go down until I spent a while playing with the rocker switch, and then went down but now won't go up.

Oh well, got the window taped up with a rubble sack for tonight. Hope no one tries to have a go [-o<

The wires in the hinge are the most likely point and fairly easy to check and breaks are normally quite obvious, so worth a look.

I had a problem with one of my windows and it ended up being a high resistance problem causes by one of the connections in the drivers door furring up. Electrical cleaner and a scrape with a screwdriver sorted it and it's be fine since (a good year or so since I had to do that!)

The loom and switch have about the same chance of failing I'm afraid. Wiring details below;

Hopefully the garage will be able to borrow one out of another bongo, then we should know if it's the switch or not.

Thanks for the wiring digram, but can't say it makes that much sense. Was hoping for a "just connect the red and green wire" type answer, but guess it's not quite that simple.

I'm guessing as there is just two wires going to the Motor (and they look to go straight from the switch) - that you could just identify the 2 wires and apply 12v to one (via a fused feed) and the other the GND. I guess it will just be a case of swapping the wires over to go the other way??

That would be my guess, but worth waiting for confirmation from others. I tend to just have a go but that can get expensive if you get it wrong!

Got it sorted from my local garage. They had an old bongo in there, so we borrowed the switch, and replaced a fuse and got the window up. New switch ordered, so all good.

Cheers.
