Wont start!

Post by winchman » Fri Nov 04, 2016 11:11 am

After 5 years faithful service got in Bertie this morning, started first time, ran for a couple of mins whilst parked went a bit lumpy then cut out and won't start.
So any top tips things too check?
He must know I am thinking of selling him :D

Yes turns over no problem, I wonder if its fuel related? Plenty in it?

Diesel or petrol?

Right pain for you.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

sounds like the fuel has run back to the tank, its just used the filter and pump full then stopped, just keep cranking it over it should start, may need a second battery though. some of the early filter housings have a filter primer on the top, look for a round disc on top, this is the primer.

How long had bertie been standing unattended since he was last started up. Was it an unusually long interval? And temperatures have dropped, which could have a bearing. Could a faulty pump seal be letting air in so that fuel in the fuel line has fallen back into the tank. This kind of thing has happened before.

Hmmm plenty long enough for a leaky seal to create an airlock. How true that (old) cars (and people) need to be driven regularly.
