It happened to me - Bongo leaked at rear matrix. Plastic spiggot gave up. Broken. 10 miles south of Inverness on A9 as I was about to leave layby. Tried for an hour to reattach pipe to what was left of spiggot. Realised that was not going to work. Went though tool box to see if i had anything that could join the pipes. Found a long 12mm socket and tried that. Sorted out the water and said repair got me home to Chesterfield.
Does anybody know bow to repair plastic spiggot so i can avoid going down the permanent by pass route?

Think you might be able to buy non standard replacement. Could try calling a major Bongo specialist (or maybe Bongospares?) to ask if no-one comes back on here with advice?

Called in at Sowerby Bridge on my way home. George said to replace the matrix was involved as the air con would need regassing afterwards. Hence my request to see if repair could be effected in situ.

Hmmm. Guess a call to a Bongo specialist for advice might be your best bet then. Suspect it could be tricky though.

I don't recall anybody here repairing a plastic spigot. Doesn't mean it can't be done or it hasn't been done but I would be nervous of any repair on those already brittle plastic areas of the COOLING system.

Regassing isn't a big job. £45. To be environmentally friendly (and legal I think) it should be emptied by an Aircon service place. With luck they would charge you the same even if you take the vehicle away in between emptying and refilling. I found a really local man with an Aircon gassing machine who doesn't advertise but is used by the local garages so it's worth asking around instead of googling.

The heater and AC are different units but they share the same housing you need to remove the whole heating/aircon unit change the Matrix and refit, bleed the coolant system and regas the AC system.

Good Luck.

My bongo is at my friendly Polish mechanic. He seems to know everything. Took a look at the broken plastic spiggot and with his torch announced that there was a copper connection that he would be able to cut a thread in and then screw another spigot on to.

If this proves to be a good repair I will report back. Fingers crossed.

Just collected bingo. All repaired. After the struggle he had sorting the steering rack he said it was an easy fix. Fingers crossed all is now Ok.

Wow great result - never say never then! Would be interesting to get the technical details as that spigot may be a problem facing many Bongos down the Road of Time
