Slow Start
A member based in Jersey has a diesel Bongo that takes a long time for the Auto box to go in to top gear (far longer than normal) and also has a very low idle turnover (at about 350 rpm). The vehicle has recently been serviced. Is it possible that the Throttle Position Sensor has been knocked? If so, can someone let us know where to find it and how to make an adjustment?

Re: Slow Start
Maybe a strange request .... But why do a few members ask questions via 'Bongo Towers' and not directly on the Forum .. ??
Bit like asking for info via a PM ..
An answer on a Forum may help many .. an answer via a PM helps one .. !!

Re: Slow Start
It used to be the case that there were many BF members who didn't know about (how to use) the internet forum. Might still be so?
To answer Ian's question, it seems unlikely it got knocked but anything is possible. What explanation does the garage offer for the coincidence? I seem to recall TPS easy to spot, though its been a while since i checked mine. I think its on the fuel pump side. Its a disc shaped thing with a screw(s) you loosen so it can be turned/adjusted (but i don't recommend trying it at home) There ought to be a pic on here somewhere or else maybe Ady can advise (where is Simon Jones these days by the way - much missed with his amazing parts photo collection!)

Re: Slow Start
you can raise the idle by adjusting the throttle cable
Re: Slow Start
350 rpm idle speed ? surely that's not even possible ? that's not much more than the starter cranking speed
Did this happen immediately after getting it back from the service or a few days/weeks later ? Was anything else replaced or done apart from bog standard service items ?
Yes you could adjust the throttle cable as a temporary measure but the cable adjustment should not cause low idle speed even if it was fully slackened off. The idle speed will be adjusted by a stop screw on the pump, I would imagine if this has come loose it would have been over a period of a few days that the idle speed would have been getting lower rather than ok one day then really low the next.

Re: Slow Start
as above what else has been done to the bongo.
i would think that they may have replaced the glow plugs.
cold starting revs or running revs would indicate a pipe off on the drivers side, either the one from the inlet manifold elbow to the top of the pump. (10mm dia).
or,
the cold start solenoids pipes have come off or have broken. (about 6-7 mm dia).
does it tick over ok when warmed up (when the temp gauge starts to register).
early bongo's have the tps on top of the pump, its unlikely to have been moved, the wires to it may have been knocked but they rarely give trouble. later ones have the tps in the throttle peddle, has the carpet /mat been wedged under it.

I assume youve been to the odd official bongo meet or two,but if you havnt......Ive spoken to Bongo owners at these, and when I ask them what their forum name is ,I get the reply...."what forum ??".....they dont know what im on about.
I assume they join Bongo fury as members but dont sign up for the forum,or even know it exists. So I assume in this case,as in others, they just email Ian,who puts it out to Forum uses for a result
