Mazda Bongo 96 2.5 TD
Overnight Non start – no malfuntion in evidence before ignition off previous day.
glow plug lamp illuminating = normal function
Turns over with ignition turned to crank
check Nr 18 fuse under dash – not blown
dismount Glow Plug relay
continuity verified from battery terminal + through to Blue/Red wire (supply) on glow plug relay
check primary on relay Violet = supply Black = Earth == open circuit
order replacement relay.
Replacement fitted
started on the button
CONCLUSION
While the desired energising supply for the relay indicated 12V – when the relay + supply (violet) and – earth (black) was trested for continuity it was found to be open circuit. Which meant that although the supply voltage was present the relay would not energise. Failure to energise meant that the glowplugs voltage supply could not be provided through the relay to the Glowplugs.
Tips
When the ignition is switched to on you should feel and hear a click from the relay. If there is no click then follow the circuit back to its fuse (nr 18 under dash). Then check supply to energise the relay. This can be applied to all relay's that operate functions.

Really useful info.
I wonder how it could be incorporated in a factsheet as a precaution against this thread being deleted at some future date.

Re: Non start 2.5 TD 1996
I was going to post photos of the displaced faulty relay - however although I did open it up and do photographs it looks new and with no obvious visible defect such as burnt out wire or coil. If you want to see the photos of the internals of a glowplug relay let me know.
