Air Con recharge

Hi

Had the air con recharged at dreaded kwik fit. Held gas for 2 days then lost it. They said they would do it again for free.

Question is, does the whole front and rear system complicate things? I believe its close to 950g's of gas required and some oil. PErhaps if I quote these numbers to them it might help them do a better job? They don't record this data evidently.

Failing that its a leak in the system i would presume, but I'm no A/C expert to know whether a standard leak test may (or may not pick up) ?

There are varied reports regarding level of training and expertise from the fast garage locations!
You might do better to find a mobile air con mechanic for your area, maybe a bit more expensive, but they seem a little more on the ball and reliable than some others!

Given that it appears to have lost pressure it would be irresponsible (legal?) to simply refill and risk more gas getting into the atmosphere.

I'm no a/c expert but did a lot of asking around when I had mine done and I believe the process should be:
Empty current gas/oil and measure. Confirms how low on gas it is.
Vacuum test. Not guaranteed that the system won't leak under pressure, but it's a cheap non-harmful test.
Refill. If leak suspected include a dye to help subsequent detection.
Run and Check for leaks (a/c guy kept mine for 4 hours)

Assuming this is not an electrical issue.
The length of time you say your system held gas for would indicate a easily detectable leak,providing it was re gassed correctly.
Ideally the fast fit should have carried out both a vacuum and a nitrogen pressure test. Some will only carry out a nitrogen pressure test if asked.
On refill a UV dye is normally added to aid detection of any future leakage.
Most modern automatic machines do keep a record of the gas used and extracted and some give print outs too.
And no the additional unit should not be a factor.
If you search through my previous posts you will get an outline of the generic correct procedure.
Alternatively get it to a competent garage as per the other posters.
