Hi, I wonder if any of you good people can advise me please?
I've had my leisure battery for over five years, the radio, interior lights and blind etc are patched into it and the van is used daily. So, when it failed to power my new compressor type fridge for more than a couple of hours, I assumed the battery must be in it's way out. However, it has one of these indicators in the battery that is supposed to show when it needs replacing and according to that everything is fine. So, should I just cut my losses and but a new battery or is there something I could do to test the current one?
For information, I did the maths when buying the fridge and from memory I think it worked out that I expect up to about 11 hours continuous use from it which would be more than ample.

Re: Dying leisure battery?
A 5 year old battery is very unlikely to have its full capacity no matter how its been used
Its not been unknown for the those simple "float" type indicators to get stuck, which might be the reason for it showing a full charge.
If you want to make sure, the best method would be to measure the current draw from the battery over time and from that calculate the capacity.
But its a reasonable bet that the battery has had full life by now

Thanks Geoff, I think that's probably all the encouragement I need to get a new one.
