Engine and Gearbox dipstick diameter

Post by TonyBongo » Mon May 16, 2016 1:31 pm

I'm planning on pumping out and replacing my engine and gearbox oil via their respective dipsticks.

I've got a pela type pump, but the thinnest tube that comes with it is too thick.

Can anyone advise what size tubing I need (external diameter) to get it down into the sumps?

Thanks

The Pela normally comes with a stepped tube as std the probe (black) is 3/16" OD, Length 43" and the Clear Section from the container is 3/8" OD, Length 39"

To make sure you could run your tape measure overt the stick tube opening, remember to allow for the bell.

If its a genuine Pela, such as the 6 litre one, you should find the smaller pipe will comfortably fit engine and gearbox (or at least it did with mine). If it's a Pela copy (Silverline, etc) then I've no experience of those alternatives.

Thanks. I got the vernier calipers out and it seems that the internal diameter of the engine oil dipstick is about 6mm, so I've gone for some 4mm external diameter tubing (2mm internal). Might take a while to pump out but I'm not in a rush!

The gearbox dipstick looks much wider - even the thinner tube provided with the silverline pump should fit down it.

Cheers
