Front Heater Problem
Hi, I have just had my bongo serviced and had the heater resistor replaced since the heater was not working. It had worked for a couple of weeks and is now not working on any setting. Also if the A/C button is pushed in, it only lights up selectively when the heater knob is on 1 and 3 as I remember, could be 2 and 4, I will double check. Are there any obvious electrical connections/fuses I should check?
Thanks
Thanks
Hi amac, have you made any headway with this? Just had the same problem occur: front blower stopped working (along with the roof) and the A/C light only lights up on setting number four. The only cause I can think of is that I attempted to plug in a laptop (with DC/DC converter) into the front 12v socket. Checked all fuses (the front and rear heater fan fuses appear to be under the bonnet by the way) and all seems alright. So has anybody else had this problem and is it actually a circuit weakness that exposes the relay to surges which may perhaps be permanently avoided by adding an extra earth and fuse?

Have you read up on problems caused by heater motor seizing up as a result of a blocked 'drain which is supposed to carry water away from the gutter below the front windscreen. Once blocked, water overspills and causes deterioration of the heater motor. This in turn causes blown fuses and/or resistor (as far as I can remember). Its a known weakness in Bongos. I came across one for sale at a dealers that had this problem. I seem to recall one sympton is that the blower switch only works in some (or one position). Hope this helps (albeit in a negative way). I know some have managed to take the heater motor out and get it turning smoothly again.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the prompt reply! No, I just got the bongo 2.5 weeks ago and I'm just making my way through some of the forum topics/factsheets. Will clean out the gutter and test the fan with a 12v supply. Not sure why the roof is also affected
Do you know if translated service manual has decent wiring/circuitry diagrams? Looks like coughing up 70 squids for it might be necessary after all (just bought a fantastic physiology book for half that price and it is infinitely more interesting!). OK amac will let you know how I get on.

All I managed to do this weekend was check some obvious fuses to no avail. The air-con fan will only operate on 1 and 3 and the heater fan is not working on any setting. My previous failure was the one where the heater fan operates on setting 4 only which was cured by renewing the resistor. Everthing worked as normal for a few weeks before I
I ended up in my current predicament.

hi thats right we learnt the expensive way ? that is when bongos first came into this country, there is normally a reason for failings, as you have all learnt keep the gutters clean ?[and down pipes ?]
fan
hi go to members fact sheet for info , yes its under the bonnet open bonnet and look straight down
