Hi,
I had the tappets adjusted a while back by a garage in essex, to do this they had to remove the automatic gear handle mechanism and rocker cover etc. Since they have done this and put it back together the hold button simply does nothing at all, no light on dash, just nothing. It had always worked previously so as the garage had not really worked on Bongos before and were a bit of a back alley place I wondered if they had simply failed to re-connect the wire that runs from the hold switch on the gear shift down to the auto gearbox.
Before I start pulling apart the gear shift can someone tell me what colour/location of the wire is that I need to trace to see if this is a simple fix?
My bongo is a 1996 2.5 Diesel Automatic 4WD.
Regards
Jason
Hold button no longer working.... possibly wire not connected....

Yes it runs up the side of the gear stick passenger side, its very easy to rip it off as well if they didn't use there eyes to see that the spare cable has its slack taken up around a clip!

Thanks, had a look today and it looks at least like it is still in place at the gear shift end.... do you know where the wiring loom then goes or do you think I need to start thinking about taking to an auto-electric garage? We do have a good one in Ipswich on Nacton Road.

Not really possible to suggest it could have broken off of the switch or it might have a problem further back, you could try putting a meter on it and see if the earth is sent back from the switch, in which case further back in the loom. The wiring diagrams will give you which connectors to access to test.
