Lambda sensor for 2 litre.
After much hassle I finally fault diagnosed my engine fault code. The oxygen sensor has an open circuit on the heater. I have priced a new sensor from the club shop at £229.95. I will pay this if I have to but there are 'universal' sensors available for a lot less. The unserviceable sensor is a Denso 4 wire (blue, white and two black) and is a -4390. The Denso Europe site shows how to wire in a universal sensor but the compatibility information is useless. Has anyone out there sourced a universal 4 wire sensor for a 2 litre?

Re: Lambda sensor for 2 litre.
Thanks Geoff, I ran the search and there is one reference to a 2 litre 4 wire sensor. The link on the post takes you to a renault clio after cat sensor which looks nothing like the one I removed from the van. The Mazda Xedos 6 is mentioned but again I'm not confident it is the right one for my van. I will bite the bullet and order the correct part number from the club shop when Ian returns. Your help is much appreciated.

Take a look at this site. They should be able to help with colours and at less than £50 it makes sense to try.

Just noticed they have a couple of pages of alternative wire colours for various vehicles. Looks like your old one is the same as a Toyota.

Re: Lambda sensor for 2 litre.
Fixed it!! A Denso universal sensor DOX-0109 works but you will need to splice your existing plug to the new sensor. In line splices and anti seize grease are supplied with the new sensor. Tooling required, wire strippers (sharp knife) crimp pliers and a heat gun. Sensor costs £38 posted from Sparkplugs ltd. The hardest part was disconnecting the plug on top of the transmission!

Hi can I ask what symptoms you were experiencing to lead you to trace this please?

Re: Lambda sensor for 2 litre.
The engine management light came on. I tried two or three resets but no joy. The van, a 2004 2 litre, was operating normally but I was concerned about damaging the cat and in any case a 'check engine' light on is an MOT failure.

Re: Lambda sensor for 2 litre.
Glad you got it sorted. But just in case it comes back... at the moment an engine check light is not a MOT failure. A SRS or safety related light like airbag or similar is however.
