Losing coolant? lots

Post by playnotwork » Thu Apr 28, 2016 5:56 pm

Evening got a 2.5td that loses coolant. Filled up the other day drove 100 miles there and back no coolant loss. Drove the past 3 weeks since used as everyday runner, loses about 2l a week. No sign of water any where. No oil in coolant, no water in oil. Where is the water going and only on short runs.
Saving grace got a coolant alarm fitted. cheers :!:

I'm sure people will jump on this but general advice if you've lost that much coolant will be not to drive it anymore. It will have dropped below the expansion tank and have let air into the system and will need rebleeding. I'll let those who know more than me guide you from here.......

been losing coolant for about a year now. put a low coolant alarm on a year ago and so always top up when indicator sounds. Never let drop lower, but on short journeys seem to lose more coolant. Seems to be getting worse recently.

Have you tried using that coolant dye and a uv lamp. Haydn did a bulk purchase a few years back

ask a good garage to do a positive pressure test on the system, this may show up any leaks in the cooling system.

tried k seal. seems to have blocked water pipes in heads an allowed head to overheat and crack.

Do you have a cracked head, or are you asking for advice on coolant loss?

Loosing coolant is potentially serious on a Bongo as it will, indeed, cause head/gasket failure and must be addressed.

Vitaly the repair must (as said) include proper bleeding of the system, so unless you are handy with DIY have it recovered to a Bongo Friendly garage.

Looking at the dates of the posts I'm guessing you didn't solve the coolant loss and the additive helped the head to fail.

Thanks for letting us know, a warning to others with coolant loss.

A K seal. Search will bring up lots of info......general consensus is NOT to go that route.
