Leaking Gearbox Seal

I've just changed my gearbox oil and gasket and on filling found I have a leak at the back. I haven't started it yet but it appears I've overtightened the gasket, as its buldging at the leak point. I'm draining it again but will that be it for that gasket? Can I reuse and can I stop the leak. I have released the pressure on it while I drain it. Thanks

Given the price of a gasket against potential problems I'd definitely fit a new one.

It's not just the cost though, I don't have a spare, so won't complete it this weekend if I have to wait. Might just try it again tomorrow and see what happens. Kicking myself.

On the plus side I did manage the fuel pump seals and stopped the leak on that!

make your own gasket and set the bolts using the correct torque setting. its got to be auto transmission resistant sealer/gasket maker.

I did use a remarkably similar method. I'm wondering about my sealant now, it's general purpose red gasket sealant.

if you dont know you dont know, it is very fine though init tranny oil, no one say the obvious please.

I did mine yesterday! Didn't use any gasket sealer, just smeared both surfaces, after cleaning, with ATF. Best go and check for leaks!! Hmmm, used up all the decent weather though.

When offering it up I inserted all bolts loosely so the pan was really loose and I could fiddle the gasket. I then checked the gasket all the way round before pinching up and then tightening up, which took a surprising number of circuits round the bolts.

I found filling up to the right level hard. When the fluid is warmed up, and presumably a lot thinner, it was difficult to tell where it was on the dipstick.

Right just dropped the sump again and I have spilt the gasket by overtightning.

Do any other gaskets fit I.e. ford ranger etc, that might mean I could pick one up locally?
