Post by playnotwork » Fri Mar 11, 2016 9:45 am

I have been trying to connect an odb2 reader to the bongo using a Mazda adapter of eBay. Any idea if this should work. If not how is it done. Cheers martin

Nope it will not work as it is not OBD2 (at least on older vehicles) - see this link for how to read the diagnostics....

Only some late vehicles post 2000 have OBD2 fitted and you still need an adaptor to link it to the readers.

Also, some of the adapter leads you can buy do not have all the relevant pins connected. I have two: one doesn't even power the code reader while the other one allows it to interrogate the protocols and then get no further.

I managed to adapt a Mazda OBD cable and a reader to diagnose the engine management light illumination our 2004 tintop. It took quite a bit of research but in the end it worked very well. It will not do anything with our 1998 V6. To interrogate the V6 we would need to short out the relevant pins and count the light flashes.
1998 green and silver V6 called 'Blossom'
2004 white 2 litre tin top called Buzz.
