v6 rear blower exhaust smells

Post by gordy » Fri Jan 29, 2016 10:32 am

Hi, the rear fan stinks of exhaust/oil/ engine smell when its on, i can slightly smell it on the front blower but its got so bad in the rear of the van we have stopped using it. Has anyone got any ideas what might be the problem? Thanks in advance.

Does your AC work as it should?

The rear air system only recirculates the internal air, it doesn't have any inlets from the outside at all ....

thanks for the replies. I've just been out looking at it and that was going to be my next question, does it just recirculate the internal air. I cleaned the mesh for the front blower and that's nice and fresh now. The rear one i left on full blast for ages and it seems a bit better. My AC has always worked ok in the front, does the rear have its own AC or does it work off the same one in the front? and also is there anything i can easily clean out on the rear blower?

Yes its a separate cooling matrix and heating matrix use the lush projects site to dig into the mechanical details here http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/ its under your year and then "Body and Interior" section separate diagrams for cooling and heating etc.

One pressurised a/c circuit, two cooling matrices.

Thanks so much all for your help. I'm going to give the air con bomb a go. Looks like I was probably imagining the smells were exhaust and getting worried about it with the kids sitting in the back and all. It's probably the air Conn gone niffy. I'll give it a whirl and report back.

Just a thought, have you ever had the cam seals replaced on the V6 ? The oil leaks out, runs down the length of the engine and drips on the exhaust manifold at the rear, you only get to smell it when the vehicle is stationery (at lights junctions parking etc.) and the breeze wafts the smell into the front air vents or in from the side door/windows, when moving it disperses as normal.

Thanks this was the problem, Mersh brothers at Bellingham have done a top job at sorting this. Very pricey operation but got all the belts changed too and shes running like a good un with no burning smells.
