Under BONNET and DRIVERS KNEE FUSES
Asked garage who fitted my new glow plug relay last year if they would attend my Bongo. Engineer said no one immediately available but suggested I use a TEST light to check my fuses.
Attached alligator clip to battery negative terminal and proceeded to test under bonnet fuses. Bulb lit up fuses 7-10 but NOT 6, replaced 10 amp RED
mini fuse retested but no light from 6, ST SIG, FIP & EGI BLOCKS
There are several, 13 to 18, no 14 ABS, bigger fuses with a clear PLASTIC LID/TOP,
HOW DO YOU TEST LAMP these fuses without breaking the plastic top???
DRIVERS KNEE fuses
Lifted drivers seat to earth my alligator grip on engine but could not find the best earth point which allowed me to test bulb the fuses (the wire between the clip and the test screwdriver was too short)
However did manage to test a few 16,15, 14.
Should all these fuses 1-20 light up my tester?
(with ignition key on steering column turned to on)
WHERE IS THE BEST EARTHING POINT FOR MY TESTER IN the ENGINE BAY.

Re: Under BONNET and DRIVERS KNEE FUSES
Its normal to be able to see if a fuse has blown just by looking thru the clear section on the top! There might be a few occasions where it isn't obvious, but not the most common situation.
If you need to check what the fuses do or which fuses to check then got to this link;
http://www.g8dhe.net/bwm
You can either use the diagrams (you'll need Flash), or just use the Tabs to select the way you want to look at the fuses or problems.
If you do need to check the fuses, its better to remove them and test them outside of the blocks as that will also let you check the connectors themselves of corrosion.

Thanks for reply.
Visually examination?
Looking at the top of the PLASTIC LID fuses there would appear to be a small green oblong. In some FUSES the green oblong is black.
Up for testing all FUSES after removing from 1-20 slots in the drivers knee fuse box.
How is this done?
Do you just touch the metal top on the fuse?
Where do you attach the alligator clip?
Is fuse 10, panel meters(15A) RESPONSIBLE for red and yellow dash warning lights?
This was my original post a few days ago.
NO DASH WARNING LIGHTS

Fuse 10: Appears to supply red and yellow warning lights. They are shown on this pageof the wiring manual. (if you hover over a fuse on the diagram, the green squiggles, a picture of the fuse's location pops up. Brilliant! Also avoids any confusion with fuse numbers).BonGoRANT10 wrote:Thanks for reply.

I would check fuses using a meter to measure resistance across its legs (with the fuse removed). Nothing will go bang if you slip with a probe or crock clip but needs a multimeter (not expensive and invaluable piece of kit for diagnosing all sorts of electrical problems). Without a multimeter, you could rig up a little tester using your small test bulb and a PP9 9v battery (the rectangular ones found in most smoke alarms).
Earth points: Under the bonnet any part of the metal body work should be earth so just scrape around on a screw or fitting that isn't painted. By the drivers knees, behind the plastic are a couple(?) of vertical steel struts/brackets (U channel I think) which are earth.

If the fuses are OK it would probably be worthwhile having a look at the 2 connectors behind the dash and checking the tracking on the PCB also the bulbs.
Re: Under BONNET and DRIVERS KNEE FUSES
When I got my Bongo a year ago I had no issues but just throught I would check all the fuses just in case - preventative maintenance. Found a lot of the fuse legs were dirty/corroded so I just gave them a clean and sprayed with electrical contact cleaner as a precaution.
