Our latest Bongo has a Japanese turbo timer which allows you to set a time which the engine will continue to run after the ignition has been switched off. This is to allow the turbo to cool as apparently hot turbos can self harm when stopped.
My questions are one is this of any real use for a bongo or should I just swich it off and forget it. If it is of use how long should it be set for and shouldit always be on or just on long journey.

Re: Turbo timer
Not heard of a timer before but you should always leave your engine to run for a minute of so after stopping to allow the turbo to cool down. Bongo handbook does state this - not got one in front of me to quote.
Re: Turbo timer
I gather they're not legal or at least not if you leave the vehicle with the engine still running on the timer.
If you have the later Bongo with the variable vein turbo, it's definitely worth having but handy to have anyway whatever your Bongo (well, unless it's a petrol one)
Wish ours had one.

Whether you have a Turbo Timer or Not it is illegal to have an engine running when parked on a Public Highway, it is also illegal to use a mobile phone whilst parked on a Public Highway with the engine running.
Do you not feel sorry for that poor Eagle.
Re: Turbo timer
Mine came with one too, I find it handy especially on cold mornings as I can start it up on the drive & leave running it unattended to heat up without leaving the keys in it so don't need to worry about it getting nicked while im eating my cornflakes. Mines can be set to run for up to 15 minutes.

Yes they are very useful gismos, an extra pair of hands at times. You can have the engine running at a predetermined stop when checking various faults on the vehicle. Especially if you are underneath the vehicle or it is Up on the ramp etc etc.
