My passenger door won't lock
Hello, please help! I've been having trouble with the lock over the last couple of weeks and it seems to have permanently stopped working. When I lock the drivers door to lock the whole van, the passenger side remains unlocked and can't be locked from within either. What is wrong? Is there a door lock motor? How easy is it to get hold of a replacement lock? I'm going away next month and don't want to be leaving the van open!!
I hope someone out there cN give me good advice as to what I need and what the problem may be.
Thanks in advance

Re: My passenger door won't lock
Check the wires that pass out of the door by the door hinges.....probably getting frayed.....common fault
Re: My passenger door won't lock
The door lock has an actuator, if you cannot lock the door with the knob from inside the van or the key on the outside I would imagine that the mechanism (rods etc) need to be looked at. The door card will probably need to be removed for examination.
Good Luck.

Re: My passenger door won't lock
Thanks for the two responses, at least I know there are rods involved and not motors! Fingers crossed it can get fixed! Xx

Hi, I'm having the exact same issue but with the side door. As a consequence having to leave bongo Parked on street unlocked.lumos117 wrote:Thanks for the two responses, at least I know there are rods involved and not motors! Fingers crossed it can get fixed! Xx
Did you manage to find out what the problem was and get it fixed?
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks, Pete
Re: My passenger door won't lock
Can both of you lock the doors from outside with the key?
There will be a solanoid rather than a motor to operate the door locks.
On the side door its worth cleaning to contacts before you go too much further, these are on the front of the door and the pillar.

Hi, nope key won't lock the door either. Cleaned contacts too. It feels like the mechanism is jammed somehow. Both with the key and the switch inside it feels blocked before it gets to the locked position.
Thanks for replying. Pete

Try the Search facility on here, I've an idea that a good 'Slap' in the right place can free the sliding door lock.
Of course I'm not quite sure of the right place.
Try a few things with 'and' between the words, eg sliding and door and stuck.
Good luck.

have you had a flat battery recently.??. try a real good hard slap or two on the inside of the door, low down, towards the front. then you may hear the whirring sound as the lecky motor resets to the closed position.
split open the wiring loom that goes from the drivers door to the body, it will have maybe two wires broken, one that opens or closes the door, these sound like they are touching another so sending a message all the time so its locking the actuator in the open position permanently. quick soldering job.lumos117 wrote:Hello, please help! Re: My passenger door won't lock
I tried the slapping and despite being a bit sceptical it did work and got the door closed. Stopped working again, but another few slaps and got it locked again. So, currently ok but get the feeling it might happen again... Will post again if there is any new info.
I had found the slapping advice via search, but wasn't sure that was what my problem was and hadn't had a chance to give it a go.
No flat battery, btw. The only thing that I can think of was using the key in the side door rather than remote for central locking.
Thanks for replies.

Re: My passenger door won't lock
Which door(s) are we talking about here ?
The passenger seat door or the sliding door ?
The slapping technique is for the sliding door, the vibration is sufficient to operate the microswitch which indicates the end of the mechanical cycle to close the door, this gets out of sync occasionally often when there has been a flat battery or change of battery with the door open.
If the key doesn't operate in the door or the internal buttons don't operate correct then its much more likely to be a mechanical problem with the rods that the lock from the button or key.

It feels mechanical to me and after searching the forum and looking at advice about slapping, the op's description sounded more like what I was experiencing but on a different door.
I have tried YouTube to see what the internal workings of the door are but didn't get any luck.
I'm not sure what is happening. The first time it happened it started working again without any slapping and this time it wasn't directly after a slap and no whirring noise or anything like that.
I do notice that I can not hear any electrical effort to lock or unlock the door, when it is not working if that's significant?
My gut feeling at this stage is the rods or something mechanical.
Re: My passenger door won't lock
bongofire, Personally I would remove the door card and check for worn or dry linkage etc, the door LOCKING controller(the unit that incorporates the key/handle and knob )in particular. If it is intermittent simply leave the door card off and check when the fault occurs.
And whilst the card is off a wee clean und light lubrication should also help if this has not been carried out for several years.

Re: My passenger door won't lock
Right, hadn't spotted that we had changed changed doors!
For the Sliding door problem it probably means that the grease has got stiffer or the battery hasn't got a full charge or dirty contacts, the first two much more likely in the cooler weather.
