2.5 Diesel not starting

Hi, we have a 2.5 diesel, 1995 Fred and it won't start at all. Was running 2 weeks ago with no issues.

When the key is in windows, lights wipers etc all work but there is no glow plug light on the dash and no effect from turning the ignition, just silence.

Had a look through the forums and fact sheets, which have always solved any problems in the past, but drawing a blank this time.

Any ideas what the issue will be and has anyone had this before?

Does the starter motor turn over? If not is there even a clicking sound when you try and turn the key? Do all the dashlights dim when you turn the key? A battery which is weak may still operate services but lack sufficient ooomph to cope with engine cranking loads.

also check the engine earth strap - you could do a quick check by using one jump lead to connect the engine to the chassis

Hi, thanks for responding. There is no noise when turning the key, the engine doesn't turn over. No dimming of lights.

The battery has been out for a full charge and tried a new battery too. No change.

Will check the earth when there's some light tomorrow.

Glow plugs - check if the glow plug bus bar is getting any power, could be just the bulb gone or maybe the glowplug fuse?

Starter not even making a noise - as above check the earth to the engine but also see if the starter relay is clicking - A1-04 on this diagram http://www.g8dhe.net/bwm/bwmanualp.htm?1995/Page_22 and the physical location is shown here: http://www.g8dhe.net/bwm/bwmanualp.htm?1995/Page_23

Ah, yes - a fair journey.

From the symptoms it could be the starter solenoid.

A fairly simple DIY fix with the kit:

Are all the dash lights out or is it just the glowplug light not coming on?

Just the glow plug light.

Apologies for the obvious .... checked fuses? Interior no. 18 and Under bonnet no. 6, both 10A. Locations in this fact sheet http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... usebox.pdf

Any recent work that could have disturbed connectors? Or had a bit of a soaking?

Out of interest, which fuse?
