Steering rack

Post by Gripped » Wed Dec 02, 2015 3:21 pm

Mine might be leaking oil from the rubber gaiters, so getting garage to look at it.

Assuming the worst, What do people normally suggest? a) a new rack, b) a replacement seal kit, c) a recon rack.

Also, what costs am I looking at???

I'll repay your kindness in anyway I can !

I think I read that a recon (or new) rack is the recommended route, as seals are tricky and/or replacement exercise not guaranteed to work. But no doubt someone more knowledgeable will be along to advise if you can't find a discussion using 'Search'.

Being close to Chrisrmas .. you could try some seal sealer (a seal softener .. same stuff as for auto boxes) .. available from your local car shop .. ebay etc: .. typically made by Lucas .. STP .. Wynnes ..

Cheaper than an exchange rack + labour charges ..
