Temp gauge sensor

Hi.all.
Temp gauge has been intermittent,tried cleaning the spade lug on top of the sensor which seemed to sort it out but now it's playing up again so I'm going to try a new sensor.Is it just a case of unscrewing the old one and fitting a new one?Coolant alarm is working fine.

phil its ok if your quick, or have a mate with a spare finger.
let the bongo cool down, let the pressure out of the expansion tank, then dont refit the cap, this will stop it glugging like a bottle when its trying to suck air in, let it pour out but keep an eye on the expansion tank level.

is the end of the old sensor wobbly, the rivet usually loosens.

ive found that the gen mazda sensors are best, if you fit a intermotor or other they may read different, and you know how we watch this gauge more than most.

Rivet was loose as you suspected Sherlock.

the wire tends to pull on the spade connection, this wire is part of the alternator wiring loom that loops over the front of the rocker cover, when your messing with the alternator wires you can pull the temp sender wire, this can make the connection iffy.
