Rayne Automotive Split Charger - fitting query from noob

Post by TwoSips » Mon Oct 12, 2015 8:49 pm

How do.

I've had the bus now for a couple of weeks and after getting used to how it drives, really enjoy it.

The rear seats have been removed (saving around 45kgs according to my bathroom scales) battery tray has been fitted from New Dawn Camper Conversions and split charger bought from Rayne Automotives.

I'm a bit lost though as to where to fit the VSR and fusebox, plus where the cable goes through the bulkhead and into the fusebox to the right of the steering wheel. Has anyone else fitted one and if so, could you post some suitable pics?

Hello,
I have the same, battery tray and split charge. I attached the vsr to the side of the vertical section of the tray, fuse box infront of the bulk head hole. I'll post some pics tomorrow, unless someone else has them to hand.
Cheers, David

Thanks David!

I couldn't see how to attach the fuse box given the number of wires coming out of the back of it.

Cheers,

Dave

Hello DaveImage
You can just see the relay fitted to the vertical part of the battery tray, managed to squeeze a 113A/h in there. Image
I routed the cable under the air intake cowling to the bulkhead bung behind the starter batteryImage
I couldn't find a suitable mounting surface for the fuse box, so at the moment it is attached to the surplus cable.Image
Once through the bulkhead, just a matter of selecting the items for the leisure battery,

Thanks very much for posting the pics so quickly. I'll have a pop at fitting it at the weekend.

Which leisure battery did you go for? Was it a Powerline like this one: https://www.tayna.co.uk/XV30HMF-Powerli ... P8978.html

Yes, that's the one, but I got the other version with positive on the right. Because of the size I put the posts at the back for bonnet clearance, and had negative post near the wing to earth it more easily. I only live a few miles from them so could tried before buying.

You can get rubber boots to go over that live battery terminal
For a couple of £
Or quick release ones coverd for £3:50 deliverd
I'd of droped a spanner across them if that was mine , and bang

Battery has arrived (weighs half as much as the rear seats) but I'll wait until next week to replace the two bolts that hold the battery tray together with ones with countersunk heads. Screwfix sell them but I only want 2, not a pack of 50.

Probably a daft question, but how do you get the cable through the bulkhead bung? I had a quick go at moving it earlier but it's a stubborn little bugger.

Yes a beast of a battery, took a lot to Restrain it!
Think I made a (carefully does it) fresh hole in the fleshy bit of the bung with a pointed impliment.
Then got the silicon sealant out 8-[
