Hi all
The thin metal guards which goes around the rear brake discs are rusting away nicely. Are replacement ones available? I couldn't see any in the Bongo shop.
Cheers

Re: Rear brake guards
Interested in this one. I presume that not having effective ones is not essential but just means for dirt can get on the discs etc? I think mine are still OKish but Adrian at Japandirect noticed on my partners Rav4 that they were rusted away and said they can be a pig to do.Gripped wrote:Hi all

If you mean the Rear Back Plates,it is essential on most vehicles that these are replace if badly rusted(deteriorated) .These plates retain the hub bearings/seals/half shafts etc and stop the rear wheels from going to the front of the vehicle.
If they are very bad it will be a Failure or Refusal to test on the MOTT.

Re: Rear brake guards
The ones I'm thinking of seem to be thin steel plate and (from memory) sit behind the caliper assemblies, presumably to shield them from road muck. If they are an MOT fail I'd be interested to know how the Rav4 got a fresh MOT before sale;-) also Adrian is v good at flagging up MOT fail items but said nothing regarding these. So I'm thinking we're discussing different items. It would in any case be poor safety design for them to be critical components and to make them out of relatively flimsy and rust prone steel.rita wrote:If you mean the Rear Back Plates,it is essential on most vehicles that these are replace if badly rusted(deteriorated) .These plates retain the hub bearings/seals/half shafts etc and stop the rear wheels from going to the front of the vehicle.

yes, that's the fella. It is just a thin metal guard protecting the disc.
I think they rust away on most cars.

You shouldn't have anything to worry about then.
Good Luck.
