TM 4 Engine temperature alarm

Post by Eratosthenes » Sun Oct 11, 2015 8:08 pm

Hi, can any one tell me the best way of getting the sensor leads from the TM4 from the back of the dash into the engine area to connect to the heads?

There's a join under the drivers seat

A mastic seal can be cut out and the cable layer in the grove
Held in place with gaffa tape

This is how I ran my cables for TM4, cruise control and LPG conversion: http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 44&t=63031

Connected up my TM4 and appears to be working ok - thanks again for previous comments. I need to do a couple more trips to establish the "average" temperature so I can key in the "high" figures for the warnings. When I am stationary or going quite slow both temperatures are displayed the same. However when I am travelling at speed the right hand sensor temperature is around 5 degrees c below the left. (left 82 right 77). If I stop, within a short time, the right rises to the same as the left. Is this common? I put it down to different external cooling of the engine. Appreciate any comments.

Depends where you've fitted the sensors :). Is yours a V6? If so I found that there could be up to 8C difference between the two heads but as its not possible to locate the sensors in exactly the same place on each side, and the castings are different shape / size, I think you're going to find they may show different readings.

This is the drivers side. The TM4 sensor is the one with the convoluted trunking covering the wire. I've also got a sensor for a TM2 which is taped to the incoming coolant pipe. I find this is a useful reading as it shows the return from the radiator which can be upto around 20C cooler that the stuff coming out.

Simon,

Thanks for the reply.
I have a V6.
The sensors are fitted at the other end of the engine, under the nut at approx 6 o'clock to the locations you have used.
I take on board your comments and feel a lot easier now knowing that the difference in temperatures can be expected.
