Front propshaft

I'm looking to remove the front propshaft & run the bongo for a bit with it off to eliminate a noise I'm getting. Was just looking at the diagram & it shows that the transfer box end of the shaft is a splined fitting, does anyone know if when the shaft is removed is the transfer box is open or sealed off inside ? i.e. Will the oil pour out when the shaft is removed or when the vehicle is driven ?

So the hole in the transfer box never needed to be plugged ? No sign of any oil escaping ?

Seems a bit odd, surely grit and dirt can get in and cause problems if you wanted to reinstall in the future? There must be a hole where the shaft was?

you can see here that its not an open hole into the box, its a blind socket.

That sounds about right to me, though I imagine any grit etc would easily be removed with a quick pressure spray, presumably at no risk to the internals as it is a sealed socket. Could Ady and others comment?

if your removing the front prop for any length of time its usually going to be a one way street, the internal splines in the transfer box socket wont like being open to the road grime etc, it would probably rust up the splines, cleaning them out would be a chore but i suppose its possible.
the splines have to be clean and lubricated for the splines to slide for normal use with the prop reinstated.

Thanks for the replies, a blind hole is what I wanted to hear. I'm going to hopefully take it off on Friday, it will only be for a day or 2 but will probably see if I can cover up the hole in some way, a rubber glove is usually good for that sort of thing.
