Being really lazy here, but it is dark and cold outside. Can anyone tell me how easy it is to remove the starter motor. Does it involve crawling underneath, or can it be removed from inside? I haven't looked.

I seem to have the problem described by others, in that the starter now clicks several times before finally turning the engine over. Suspect the main solenoid contacts may need cleaning or replacing.

You can get to it under the drivers seat. Will need to remove the air filter hose.
I'm hoping to go to a local auto-electrician this week to get my starting motor checked out. Usual thing sometimes it starts fine then other times it clicks and will start on about the 4th attempt. I think that I have sticking contacts because once I tap the starting motor it works fine for approx a week.

Thanks for that Mikey. I'm glad I don't have to crawl underneath, as my back is getting worse as I get older, and I don't think I would get out again if I tried it. :( If I can get at it from above, I might just remove it and strip it down myself. :)

Until recently it was starting instantly, but in the last couple of weeks it has sometimes taken several attempts, with the starter motor just clicking. Probably just the contacts.

i've just repaired mine. I tried just cleaning up the solenoid contacts which seemed to do the trick for a month or so, but then it started clicking again. I took it to just anternators and starter motors in Botley who replaced the contacts and planger... same day service...
£45... out and in in less than 40 minutes. Good luck, its not difficult.

Just had mine repaired today. Took it to an auto-electrician in LLanelli. Service & repair of the starter motor £94 inc vat. Not bad considering that I didnt even have the Bongo booked in, just took it down for a test. Also he hadto remove the starter from the Bongo before repairing / servicing it.
