Is my bongo back from the dead?

Post by manwithsound » Fri May 01, 2015 3:37 pm

:!: After thinking my Bongo was kaput due to valve seat or broken rockers, i was advised to buy a stethoscope and have a very good listen.

So it seems the majority of the noise is coming from the belt cover at the front top of he engine!

Has anyone any ideas?

No smoke, still pulls amazing, just sounds like poooooo

Maybe your cambelt has split and is whacking the belt cover - and about to shear.

If only they could be designed to give such advance warning!

That needs looking at ASAP.
I feel it will be something hanging off a belt or a pulley gone, I would drive it until you know what it is as a simple thing can be made worse if allowed to fail

check this, when they come off like this it can eat the front of the engine.

take the belts off then see if there is any movement between the pulleys, they should all be in one lump.

Well, I'm back on the road, turned out to be the rubber buffer on the crank pulley had worn and was knocking against the engine!!

So, I'm off to France to celebrate !!
