Re: 'Check' light illuminated
I'm now getting 11.68V at the diagnostic plug B+ contacts but the reader is still blank. I don't want to start changing components in the hope one of them will fix the problem! I have checked the engine temp sensor and that checks out in accordance with the engine manual. The lambda sensor is next I think. It looks like the the diagnostic system needs a proper Mazda reader and cable.

Re: 'Check' light illuminated
From a previous post about engine check lights, I have ordered a replacement adaptor cable that appears to be Mazda specific and has been tested by a BF member. The only other thing that springs to mind is that, shortly before the check light illuminated, we had filled up with Tesco 'Momentum' fuel. Is it possible that a higher octane fuel would have affected the engine sensor system?

Re: 'Check' light illuminated
After two fault code readers, two adaptor cables and a lot of shorting out I have finally given up with trying to get a code out of my diagnostic plug. Thanks to everyone for the help and advice. It seems like anything to do with late model Bongos is shrouded in mystery! I have just filled the van with standard Shell unleaded and reset the fault light. I'm hoping it was the Tesco Momentum fuel which caused the problem as the van was running perfectly previous to refuelling. The only other option is to start replacing sensors and hope one fixes the snag. Could be expensive.

Re: 'Check' light illuminated
Anyone any ideas which sensors to start checking first? The van starts, runs and idles perfectly. Fuel consumption running around locally is 24.8 MPG. Transmission changes OK, coolant levels and temperature are good. Aircon OK. The only possible snag is the scavenger fan and main fans do not seem to work independently from the aircon. I have checked out the resistance across the engine temp sensor (not the gauge sensor) and it appears to be within limits. I am reaching the point where the old fashioned remedy of removing the bulb looks attractive!

Re: 'Check' light illuminated
Do you have a picture of the diagnostic socket itself so we can see what pins are fitted ?

Re: 'Check' light illuminated
I do have an image but posting pictures on the forum is proving more difficult than fixing the van! Looking at the diagram in the fact sheet the following pins are present :-
Top Row MEN, TEN, +B
Second row GND, FAT, FBS, FAC
Third Row TAT, TBS, Plus next pin.
Fourth row FAB, IG, GND, F/P
I have 11.68v at the +B pin.

I don't know if this will work, but here's the link to the photobucket image.

Re: 'Check' light illuminated
Try this connect a link as shown, then watch the Glowplug light on the Dashboard for the code;

The flashing code pattern is described here http://www.philmcfadden.co.uk/MazdaDiagnosticBox.htm

Re: 'Check' light illuminated
Geoff, it's a 2 litre petrol.
Already tried that shorting combination. nothing happens. I have an Autel Maxi scan MS309 as recommended in an earlier post about later Bongo diagnostics. I am dubious about the adaptor cable as the pin which connects to the +B terminal is not connected to the socket at the other end. This means that the reader is not getting power. I have ordered a second cable and it should be here early next week. I'm hoping it works but I'm not holding my breath! I had more success trouble shooting Airbus engine systems!!

Re: 'Check' light illuminated
Worth a try, the post 2000 versions would flash the dashboard lights rather than needing to add a LED/Lamp itself, sounds like they had yet another change since then for the version that does work with OBDII and adaptor.
