Fuel pump/ seals ?
Still having problems with my van....no one seems to know what they are doing...garage wise. I'm sick to death of trying this, trying that and paying out many hundreds of pounds to end up with the same problem......my van cuts out. Told by The lovely Simon at contract mechanics that it is the fuel pump, but he has family difficulties just now and cannot get up here to fix it. I've checked for a bongo friendly garage in YORKSHIRE, .....NO....The garage at Thirsk is a total no no for me after my experience with Andy there. Today, tried another garage listed on our forum in York, and after speaking to a friend who knows the place have been told not to use them !! Who the heck can I trust....apart from contract mechanics ?
Any advice/ suggestions please.......before I drive both me and my bongo over a cliff !!

I think you need to consider getting your vehicle check out by a Diesel Specialist if you suspect the pump. Its often more cost efficient in the long run.
Good luck

Hi Pam. V sorry to hear the have been a disappointment as you seemed to be very happy with them at first, and I think others have praised them.
As I am constantly being reminded, we're not supposed to say anything good or bad about suppliers and garages on here so expect moderators to remove/edit your post and lock this thread hey ho
Hope you get it sorted. I'd suggest Adrian at Japandirect but he's a long way off and frankly I can't understand why the other garages can't manage to fix it

Hi mike,
Thanks for that love. I did not know that we could not say something good or not so good on here !!!im flabbergasted !! How else are some of us ever going to suss things out without being aware of who to avoid etc. I actually toned my comments re VISAR right down too !!!!!
Anyway, the idea from the woman on the prev post...sorry cannot remember her name, led me to try yo find a diesel pump specialist , but the nearest one osScarborough......and may need it a few days ? Another said send it in the post !
Perhaps I should just get rid of it Mike ?
Keep well love. Xx

Hmmm, depends what you plan to do instead. Plus it'd be worth more in good running order. I was thinking too that a diesel specialist might be what you need rather than a Bongo garage. V disconcerting when something like this happens.yorkshirelass wrote:Perhaps I should just get rid of it Mike ?
As for alternatives, if you're away camping a lot and have the dosh, I'm always tempted by the Toyota Hiace (about £10-11k for a fresh import from a dealer although here's one for less http://motorhomes.autotrader.co.uk/used ... sting=true ). No wider than the Bongo, but it is longer. That means though that you have really decent full accommodation and cooking with no extra setting up. I went in one a few years back and was surprised how well it got around. Getting in and out of the cab is a bit odd so need to check that's not an issue. But I'm advised they are v solid mechanically and bodywork wise. And the look grows on you, especially when you see a smart new one just in from Japan (they model I'm thinking of is a tube basically, a bit like a larger/longer VW type 2 in some ways!). You can get them as 4WD also. Nothing beats a Bongo though for all round everyday MPV ability in my opinion.
Yes the rules on here are weird and the moderators spend a lot of time locking threads (shutting stable doors) after an improper post has been made (the horse has bolted). I feel for them, as removing (or editing) the small number of dodgy negative posts would probably be less time consuming, and when a garage etc. gets lots of good public reports it should motivate other garages etc. to want to get similar reports.
It's possible to have a falling out with any garage, sadly. Even Adrian will have had those I'm sure. And ageing Bongos present some novel problems it seems. Even the best can't get it right all the time.

Re: Fuel pump/ seals ?
If it weren't the pump but a bit of bongotastic control system would the diesel specialist still be comfortable? Just wondering how far their expertise reaches and what the likelihood of them drawing a blank could be.rita wrote:I think you need to consider getting your vehicle check out by a Diesel Specialist if you suspect the pump. Re: Fuel pump/ seals ?
I've had this problem since Dec/Jan. It's definitely an ongoing problem, which seems to put my life at risk each time I dare to venture out...I rarely use it now and am constantly 'hooted' at when the engine just cuts out and my steering goes very heavy and I have to pull in to the side of the road......regardless. So, no it's not a bit of bongo quirky ..ness! It's a huge problem that seems insoluble by so called 'mechanics'. It now feels I don't have a prayer in getting this sorted. I'm still waiting to hear from Simon at contract mechanics.......but don't like to pressure him at this time. Surely he cannot be the only person known that can sort this problem, without me having to go outside Yorkshire.......the largest county in England !
Sorry folks, I'm just feeling so sad now.

George at Bongospares in Halifax sells reconditioned pumps: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazda-Bongo-R ... 3aae5ecbec
You're more likely to get a warranty on a refurbed one than changing the seals on yours. He may even offer a fitting service? If not, there's a nice chap in a black Bongolow who might be able to help you out in return for cups of tea

Have to admit I was thinking this was a case for Ady Holmes, if he was prepared to take it on.Simon Jones wrote:George at Bongospares in Halifax sells reconditioned pumps: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazda-Bongo-R ... 3aae5ecbec

Re: Fuel pump/ seals ?
I'm now pinning my hopes on the garage I used in Bradford, who are just the bees knees. I was asked if the fuel pump was electric or manual ..? Hope I've got that right ?? Anyway I'm taking it to my old garage ( now 2 1/2 hours away ) on Monday for them to check it out . They are keeping a ramp available for me from 1pm. How lovely....when they are always so very busy. So, fingers crossed I will have a proper diagnosis this time, so will know what is actually needed......instead of leaving it for so called mechanics to 'take a look', find nothing and charge me £200-£300 for the privelege !
Will let you know how I get on.....next week.
THANKS FOR EVERYONES INPUT......ITS ALL HELPED ME TO THINK IT THROUGH PROPERLY.

That's brilliant news. Good garages will always solve the problem, even if it takes them a bit of time and head scratching. Fingers crossed for you.yorkshirelass wrote:I'm now pinning my hopes on the garage I used in Bradford, who are just the bees knees. I was asked if the fuel pump was electric or manual ..? Re: Fuel pump/ seals ?
we had a chat about this already didnt we pam but thought it unwise to bring it down here coss it conks out. if it were mine i would take it to george at bongospares at sowerby bridge, he has all the gear, all the spares including top quality recon fuel pumps on the shelf if needed, a pump swap can be done in one hour tops. and there is a good butty shop across the road.
i was there today.
