Fuel Guage - 3 wires, all seem OK but still no reading.

Post by ircbongo » Sat Jan 27, 2007 7:06 pm

Hi everybody
I've spent all afternoon trying to fix my fuel gauge with no success.
I have read all of the posts I can find on problems with the fuel tank sender, and I've cleaned and tested the wiring connectors. Still no joy. It sounds like most people only have 2 wires. I have 3 wires at the sender. With the ignition on, 1 shows approx 12v, one shows approx 6v, and 1 is an earth. I have re-made the earth connection but nothing has changed.
The gauge does not move of the bottom of the scale. However, it does work intermittently and gives accurate readings for as long as a couple of days before it gives up again.
Can anyone tell me which wires do what and whether the voltages I'm getting seem right?
Which 2 could I connect to get a full reading?
I've left it all in bits to continue in the morning, but I'm running short of good ideas!
PS: This bongo do have a low fuel light - is that the extra wire?
