Where to find switched 12v supply

Post by stark » Sun Aug 09, 2015 3:57 pm

hi

So i've been fitting a coolant alarm ( very much a shutting gate after horse has bolted thing but I don't want another £1800 garage bill)

anyway. Spliced in nicely to the ciggy socket and that was switching on and off with the ignition.

And then I reconnected the leisure bttery and it turns out that the ciggy socket has a permanent 12v supply. Not ideal as I now don't get that nice "i'm working" beep on startup

so I want to find a switched 12v feed but am struggling with working out where to find one.

Any sugesstions ( if it helps, 321Away did the fitting of the split charging system)

cheers

Firstly it sounds like you may have a wiring issue if the socket is live to the starter battery and then live to the LB as well.

My recommendation (and what Jo from Haydn's alarm suggests to do) is use a piggy back fuse from fuse 9 (engine management).

You want the mini fuse type as shown on the left:
