change in engine noise

Post by mountainmummy » Fri Jul 24, 2015 12:54 am

Hi

Just been on a chilly (bloody freezing) trip to Gairloch. On the way up I had to brake quite strongly coming up to a roundabout. (fiesta decided to change lanes without signalling). When going around the roundabout I noticed a change in the engine noise, it started sounding quite v-dub like. There's no loss of power, van feels fine but in lower gears under strain (up hill or pulling away from roundabouts) it's definitely noisier. Sort of a v-dub or motorbike sound. No change at normal cruising speed.

I'm thinking maybe an exhaust issue? Any other suggestions?

Sara

P.s. Only one midge bite so far this year, just goes to.show what rubbish weather we're having up here in Scotland

Exhaust would be my first investigation though not sure how it would be related to the hard braking. If boxes look fine, check where sections are welded to flanges. Tell tale black streaks are a good clue.

Hi

I've had a good look under the van and to my (untrained) eye the exhaust looks ok. The engine is definitely noisier in the lower gears though. Not sure how to describe the noise, possibly a vibration noise, a little like a motorbike sound.

Only hear it when accelerating and no loss of power etc. At cruising speed sounds normal.

Looking for suggestions.

Sara
