I had 3 advisories on my MOT in June that I haven't got around to sorting out...

Nearside front suspension arn ball joint dust cover deteriorated, but preventing the ingress of dirt

Nearside rear anti-roll bar linkage rubber mounting deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement

Offside rear anti-roll bar linkage rubber mounting deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement

MOT passed Ok, and when I questioned the guy on the advisories he said they weren't urgent and not to worry about it, but I wondered if anyone had an opinion on them? As I am non-technical when it comes to mechanics and bongos.

Just about to embark on a european Bongo adventure next week!

Ive had advisorys that ive done nothing about ar left fo ages.

But if youre planning a long trip abroad,id definitely get them done,purely for peace of mind

Not expensive to do the antiroll bar stuff and may improve ride plus remove risk of it failing whilst away

More or less the same as mine ..

Rubber covers on front drop links .. track rod ends and lower ball joints .. but no wear in the ball / sockets so the tester recommending fitting just new rubbers ..

But as my V6 is now 17 years old .. I had all new / complete parts fitted and lazer tracked .. a distinct improvement to how it had been before ..

I have one now, (unable to test mid seating safety belts as seat has been reversed) Guess what, it's staying that way and I am doing nowt about it. If it persists I will remove seat belt

Quite right, the only problem you May have is if the Insurance Company ask to examine the MOT certificate in the event of a Claim.

Well Actually I will be doing a rear conversion at end of year and the rear seat will be removed and the said seat will remain reversed to make up the full bed. With the seat belts removed and the DVLA informed it will then be a full camper conversion and the insurance company will be insuring as a camper.

There will only be two travelling in it anyway but may fit 3 lap belts just for the hell of it

My Bongo Failed last 2 MOT's for slit or loose ball joint rubber dust covers Mechanic claimed been a good earner for them since MOT ruling came in a couple of years ago, as a high number of vehicles fail on them as cheep parts (£9 including cer clips for bongo) around 30 mins labour and re tracking- easy money.

I was a bit wary with potential issues with the ingress of water .. coupled with lost / dried out / congealed / grit contaminated grease .. 'grinding' into metal parts that may be seventeen years old anyway ..

That's why on my 1998 V6 I had all my 'advisories' units replaced compete ..

There's a lot to be said for that

If you value your Bongo its worth doing stuff before it causes a problem rather than after. Trouble sometimes is knowing what to attend to, but an advisory may give a clue

As all MOT information is now entered into the DVLA Data base and with ANPR instantly available to the Police ..

I often wonder if not put right any advisories on an MOT would affect an insurance claim as maybe classed as a contributing factor ..

Or having a 13 months MOT, only for it to fail .. as then you are then knowingly driving a faulty vehicle ..
