Screeeeech 2.0l Petrol
Hi All!
Had my 2.0l petrol Freda since May and loving it......however I have noticed that when I pull away having previously reversed there is a screeching sound for a couple of seconds from the engine. Sounds like a belt of some sort? Any ideas as to what it might be please? Hopefully nothing serious, it's still in it's JAL warranty period.
Thanks

Are you sure it's coming from the engine .. does the sound increase with the speed of the engine ..??
Some years ago i had an Omega .. when reversing it made a noise but it from the back end ..
On checking .. the hand brake friction shoes on one side an come un bonded from the metal shoes ..
The Bongo uses a similar hand brake system ..

If the problem only occurs when changing from R to D then it indicates something brake or gearbox related. A slipping belt would be evident when pulling away everytime. Might be worth asking JAL to check it over for you.

With a prospective round trip of maybe around 250 miles for a dealer to check ..
Maybe a logical first DIY inspection would be the drive belts for the alternator and what ever else is driven from the engine pulleys ..

......or perhaps just ring JAL and see what he says? When we bought Bart, Phil said 'you have your warranty but I will always send you to a guy in Bristol (NO, not THAT one!
) that I use and trust, which will save you a long journey'.
Just a thought....

Re: Screeeeech 2.0l Petrol
Thanks for the replys, it only does it for about a second and it feels like the engine pulls away a bit when it stops.
I've driven the Freda to Dorset today with no problems so I'll just keep an eye (or an ear) on it and give Phil a call when I'm back.
Btw 'Freda' hasn't got an official name yet. Any suggestions?

Phil has a lot of contacts, and I know ADS in Bristol do some work for him.
Most likely he will know someone near you.

That's who he recommended to me but I've yet to give them a call....not too far from us - we're out near Chipping Sodbury
