3rd row flip up seat, back rest removal

Post by Bongojojo » Mon Jul 13, 2015 3:01 pm

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a 1995 Bongo for myself and my children to go off adventuring in! It came with a homemade rear conversion which I love. One of the flip up bench seats has been removed, the other is in situ. I'm happy with where it is as it's handy seating for cooking in the bongo, but I'd like to be able to remove the seat back.

Could some kind Bongo bod please tell me how to do this in a manner not too technical for a girl not used to wielding a screwdriver :-)

Many thanks in advance :-)

Hi Jojo, and welcome to BF.

Don't know without looking, but I fancy this would be an MOT fail. :(

Edit: The seat will fold backwards, flat, would that do for cooking?

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately the seat wont go back, lay flat and flip up as the conversion goes across the rear so is in the way. I thought if I took the back rest off then I've got a seat to perch on and cook. Not worried about having any passengers on there, I thought I could just flip it up out of the way when on a journey. Do you think that would work?

Many thanks for the reply, LOVE BF :-)

Hi it appears that you only want to use the squab, as the back rest is interfering with your kitchen unit, you should be able to unbolt the seat back from the hinges to allow this, and just use the squab. Any MOTT implications can be overcome by refitting the back rest before the MOTT.

Good Luck.

Hi teenmal, yes that's exactly what I want to do. Use the squab - what a great word! I just cannot see how I unbolt it and how to get at it. I'm really not used to screwdrivers and spanners. Do you know where the bolts are at all?

Thanks :)

I would imagine at the hinge point, I'll try and remember to look tomorrow.
