Temp gauge

Post by Tim & Michelle black » Mon Jul 13, 2015 11:09 am

Hi to all me and wife have just got our selves a Bongo and so far love it. we have already turned around the centre seats and will have some cool audio going in soon. my only worry is that the temp sits just over half way. i have keeper an eye on the coolant level and it is at max. the pipes look good and no bulges. it has a ace answers engine temp alarm. but just would like to know if this is the norm. we have been driving around town up and down hills and it just sits at just over half way. looking at all the paper work it has had a full service every year and any probs that have pop up have been sorted (no major probs in paper work and all work has been carried out at Allans Plymouth). can any one put our minds at rest Thanks

it is a 1997 2wd v6

Welcome to the forum :). I've also got a V6 but I've fitted a thing called a Mason alarm which has the effect of making the gauge more sensitive. Typically working range is 12 o'clock to 1 o'clock, but at the point where the thermostat opens & the fans come on, it's around the 2 o'clock position. You may have one of these fitted, or another modification which has the same effect. I would expect you to see the needle moving if that was the case. Might be worth asking Allan to give it a once over & change the thermostat & replace the coolant as a preventative measure. It may be a sign of a partially obstructed radiator or it may be absolutely nothing to worry about. Only accurate way to see actual temperature is with a digital gauge.

I think that is what "Tim & Michelle black" have fitted, it is a Ace Answers Product from Mr Mason.

That'll be it then. In that case, the needle should be moving more than normal to the point that you can see it moving down when the fans kick in.

Thanks guys i will give allan a call as he should know the bongo. it had its last service only 3 months ago. i will also be fitting a coolant level alarm very soon then a leisure battery with split charger. lol lots of work to do so we get the camper we will spend a lot of time in.

we just need to learn the qwertyness of the bongo so we can travel distance with conference.

we both kayak, surf, and i am a sound engineer plus we have 3 mastiff's (they surf with us to) so the bongo will get some use

once we have got some of the basics sorted i will build the kitchen, with the mid seats taken out it will be placed just behind the drivers seat then i am thinking a small bench seat for extra storage plus with the back seats we can sit rather side of a nice table.
i will post pics as we go. the covering i will be using for all the cabernets is what we use for large festivel speakers. it is waterproof and scratch resistant. as the build go's i will post more info.
Thanks again
