There are always a lot of Bristol based ones on Gumtree too.
Fishponds is a popular one.

All seemed way to cheap to me so avoided as the saying goes "too good to be true"! I continue my search with renewed hope each day! Although its hard to find a good Bongo on the market!

We've just bought a Bongo so I've spent a bit of time gleaning info from this site!

When we were first looking for a Bongo we saw one on ebay, it was nearly perfect (for what we wanted) and the price was great. We discussed it and whether it was worth the risk of having a punt on it on ebay given the low price. I ended up saying we shouldn't rush in (only a short listing and a good distance away) and it sold for a very reasonable price. Whilst looking for others it had always been a bit of a 'one that got away' in the back of our minds and made others look quite expensive. We ended up opting for a local one at a reputable dealer with decent after care. We've paid a lot more though and the thought of the one that got away was still in our minds - were we wasting a few thousand buying this more expensive one?

Anyway - found the 'one that got away' a few pages back on this thread! So I can now remove it from my mind as it obviously was too good to be true! Looks like it was somehow sold a few times by different accounts too so something dodgy going on! Phewww!

Sickening thing about this, is that he had a negative feedback on this account which has now been removed. He turned his feedback private to avoid it been read. How he managed this when most bad feedback however petty is unremovable.

On Facebook recently, somebody has reported buying in Bristol, can't remember if Ebay or Gumtree, but pattern/style was sounding potentially familiar. Behaved like private seller but number of vehicles more like a business. Bongo boiled on the way home from the purchase.

It is amazing in this age of viral communications that the dodger Bristol seller survives and sad that such determined immorality seems to go unchecked.

Hi, ive introduced myself on another thread but just only just joined...

Ive been considering a Bongo for about a year and been seriously looking for around a month.

The guy in question tends to take pics of his Bongos with the lights on and sometimes with fancy duvets and wine glasses etc. He is advertising on Gumtree with Bongos in Fishponds, St Werbergs and Kingswood all on the same mobile number.

A few weeks ago curiosity got the better of me and I gave him a call, he gave me a postcode on Fishponds trading estate which took me to the Rugby club. I called him from there and he came to meet me and told me to follow him. He took me round the corner through a thin alley past a scrap yard to his yard which felt very dodgy. (My missis wasn't at all happy)

he did have around 15-20 Bongos there but I was looking for one with a conversion. They were much cheaper than any other we had seen and looked relatively tidy. They was one (R Reg) with a full side conversion for £7000 and I asked him to start it up, guess what.... It wouldn't start. On further inspection there was one alloy missing and few other bits and pieces that he said he would sort out and was willing to reduce the price significantly to do a deal!

All this combined was enough to put me off.

Too be honest the guy was fine and not intimidating or pushy at all, had his 8-10 year old boy with him and could probably sell quite a few Bongos if he actually made sure they were all running and tidy before trying to sell them to people, you can tell alot of swapping of parts goes on as he was happy to take bits of other Bongos for us (wheels, rear mirror etc).

There may actually be a bargain there for someone as long as you dont expect any come back or mind doing a bit of work yourself...

That was as honest and upfront about my experience as I could be.

I have been looking on Ebay to purchase another Bongo. I have seen what looks like a bargain Bongo on numerous occasions all pretty with flowers and staged to look like a show home and I think all from Bristol area. I remembered from when I was a member before that Bristol is not a good place to buy Bongos on Ebay so even the more genuine looking Bongos I gave a miss if it said selling from Bristol. So thanks everyone for highlighting the scams, but to any genuine Bristol Bongo sellers I feel sorry for you as I am sure I won't be the only one avoiding buying from Bristol.

My friend was scammed with a camper (not Bongo) the photos looked good again with a staged show home look with flowers and wine glasses out. When we got there the owner wasn't there and had left it on the roadside with the keys in the vehicle along with documents. It was an old banger with damp patches on the ceiling, leaves and dust blown in through the large gap where the join from side panel to back should be. I was all for leaving it there but he had bought some tools with him and fixed the exhaust which was hanging low and plodded home from Essex a couple of hours drive. I was in front with instructions not to drive on ahead too much. By the time we were nearly home it was dusk.....he put his lights on. I was asked to stop if I saw him flashing the lights so I found an area to stop at and as I was indicating to pull over my daughter who was in the back got a txt from him asking why I was pulling over. It turned out he wasn't flashing me at all to pull over but the lighting was faulty and he didn't realsise. Ten minutes from home he got pulled over by the police who said he looked like Blackpool illuminations but once they had heard the story they let him go as he was so close to home. After asking for his money back from the scammer which was poo pooed of course. They said there was nothing wrong with the van my friend started to make the best of a bad job and fixed the gap in the join but then he realised it had a years MOT on it.....no way was that genuine so lucky for him in the nick of time he managed to get his money back as the garage who had done the MOT was asked by the powers that be to attend another MOT test at a local garage to my friend. They promptly drove from Essex to Swindon and paid him back his money along with £200 expenses and took the dodgy camper with them......probably to burn in the nearest wood somewhere on the way home. This was the shortened version of the story as I didn't want any of you falling asleep hahaha.

On a happier note..............
I am picking my latest Bongo up tomorrow which I have bought from a nice lady who has been a member on here and sold via the Bongo Fury For Sale page.
