Seats won't lift
Been trying to get to the engine bay to check oil level and wanted to give it a service next weekend but no matter what I try I cannot get the seats to tilt away from the floor either forward or back? Have removed centre console and under carpet can see the hatch clips but the seat stops me opening the bay, do I have to completely unbolt the seats and remove? Seems a lot of fAff just to check oil levels, reading posts that appear to me the base of the seats should flip up away from the floor allowing access but cannot get mine to budge other than normal slide forward and back, sorry for such a silly question but it's doing my head in now!

Remove center console plastic, unclip two clips at front and one that was under the center console, make sure mini seat thing behind is vertical and then lift the seat back.
The bit that takes the longest is undoing the 2 big plastic nuts in the center console.

Can't improve on these comments, it really is quite easy, and the other side comes up the same.

me also! If seat isn't budging, make sure all 3 clips are fully unhooked. If it's moving a bit but not enough, check the footrest behind the seat. The carpet is Velcro'd round side of seat - pull this loose to be sure; mine doesn't stop the seat being lifted but just in case yours has super Velcro!Bob wrote:Can't improve on these comments, it really is quite easy, and the other side comes up the same.

Re: Seats won't lift
On the drivers side you may have to slide the seat back slightly so it clears the steering wheel. As long as all 3 catches are undone there should be nothing else holding it place although sometimes the rubber seal can stick which provides extra resistance.
Re: Seats won't lift
Reading the original post it's possible that you are trying to move the wrong thing.
If you have a side conversion, this can stop the floor panel lifting very far, as the seat hits it, but you should get a big enough gap to check levels (ATF and Power steering in that side, engine oil under passenger's side.
The floor is hinged behind the seats - the whole thing, floor panel with seat attached, opens up.I cannot get the seats to tilt away from the floor either forward or back?

That's like my drivers side conversion ..
As the drivers seat hits the sink .. I have to keep a 1" square bit of wood handy to prop the seat up ..
Just visible bottom left (by the air filter) ..

Thanks all sorted now, yes was trying to lift the seat to get to the clipped panel, not realising the panel lifts! Feeling a bit silly now lol

Should imagine we've all done something like that,Bongo was my first automatic, didn't know it had to be in park to get the ignition key out.bongowight wrote:Thanks all sorted now, yes was trying to lift the seat to get to the clipped panel, not realising the panel lifts! ... or your foot on the brake to get it out of 'P'ark and get it into gear ..!!
Still the odd one who thinks the gearbox dipstick is to check the engine oil ..
Or those with big thumbs who panic when the 'H'old light suddenly lights up .. !!

Re: Seats won't lift
My seat will not lift far as fouls the sink unit behind.
I keep a cordless impact gun in the Bongo and remove the seat.
Got this down to an are now akin to a racing car pit crew with tyres.
