Air bag light flashing
Just started flashing today, probable cause anyone? Typical 1 week before MOT.
Only thing I was doing was I had the stereo out to check something but nothing disconnected.
Can I plug it in and knock it off?

Re: Air bag light flashing
is it the 6 flashes ? If so that's the connection between computer and bag, often comes down to the clockspring on the steering wheel.

Re: Air bag light flashing
I had this problem in a car once and it turned out to be a wire in one of the front seats had deteriorated? This game age charged me £90 to get it off for the mot? A week later it was back on! I think he did it with some software? Anyway I got the £90 back after some serious deliberation
I sold the car eventually!

Re: Air bag light flashing
The airbag sensor module is mounted in the space in front of the gear selector in the gap under the centre cubby hole. Perhaps you have disturbed a connection? Also try disconnecting the battery for half an hour to reset the system.
There are no airbag related wiring to seats so that's one less thing to worry about.

Simon, that makes sense as I had the console off and I pulled a cable through so probably disturbed it. I'll have a look tomorrow.
NB it has twin bags, I prefer twin bags

Re: Air bag light flashing
I had a look under the console and couldn't find the module, battery off did not fix it.
Light flashes 7 times, stays off for 10 secs then flashes again 7 times. It stays off until you select drive then starts flashing. I was gonna plug it in tomorrow but it has a strange OBD socket I've never seen before.
Anyone got a list of fault codes?

Re: Air bag light flashing
Just an update, light still flashing, bought a lead to convert diagnostic port to OBD socket but the diagnostic machine doesn't seem to be able to communicate not sure if it's a dodgy lead or the port isn't supplying power, does anyone know the pins which would supply power.
Those fault codes would suggest pass side airbag at 7 flashes so I think next step is take the bags out and check sockets and wiring.

Re: Air bag light flashing
It's not OBDII compatible so even with the adapter you may struggle to get a modern reader to talk to it. There's a pin out here: http://www.philmcfadden.co.uk/MazdaDiagnosticBox.htm
Re: Air bag light flashing
Cheers Simon, pity I didn't meet you at the weekend.
What is the best way to diagnose it then? Connect the wire and led and count the flashes or use the flashes on the airbag lamp?
I was wanting a starting point to go from there.

I did see your van Stu, but didn't have a chance to pop over. Next year - definitely
. I'm a bit nervous of shorting out pins in the diagnostic socket so was going to make a box with a couple of switches & LEDs so there's no chance of connecting the wrong pins together.

Re: Air bag light flashing
I wasn't keen on shorting pins neither.
