If the wiring melted what happened to the fuses????? That's what fuses are there to protect!! Do you have any fitted when they did the installation?

My thoughts exactly. This should not happen in any installation by a certified electrician. Very lucky the consequences weren't a lot more serious. Very sorry also to hear the news. Unless you can find one to come to you, you should isolate batteries and have it taken to an auto-electrician for a report etc. It maybe be an insurance job so you might want to contact them first?g8dhe wrote:If the wiring melted what happened to the fuses????? I hadn't even thought about fuses. I've not looked tbh. I'm going to get the caravan looked by a caravan specialist, although it was cheap so I'm happy that was 'sold as seen'. However I'll take your advice and have the bongo looked at by an auto electrician to assess the installation of the towbar electrics and damage and take it from there if there. Cheers.

So apparently there wasn't a fuse, or a split charge relay when the work was done the first time. It was probably wired for a later configuration than the 1992 caravan than we bought and with no fuse it heated up and melted a load of the wiring.
I've had it back to the guy who did the work and he's sorted the damage to the earth on the lpg wiring, replaced the towbar electrics, installed a main fuse and also individual fuses on the feeds for the fridge, battery etc too, and put in a split charger.
The initial work wasn't good but I can't fault the way he's sorted it out.
Fingers crossed that the flashing hold light was related to all of that electrics stuff, I'll let you know after I've towed the caravan again.
