Yes, you're definitely supposed to have the engine running otherwise the battery will struggle to cope with the load. Not required for lowering as you've got gravity on your side
.

Re: AFT lock cancel button
I have a theory here. It might be that the tent shrinks a tiny bit over time.
I gather the problem with the roof not fully raising can be solved, at least sometimes, by raising the roof with the tend unzipped.

Re: AFT lock cancel button
I have the front section unzipped up to the corners to help with letting the air out when lowering.
I'll try opening it a bit further and ee if it makes a difference to raising. But it'll be next week as it's in the garage for a few bits and a service

I might be wrong but I would have thought that having the engine Running while Lowering the roof would help to overcome the force of the Struts.

I have my engine running when lowering
never tried it with out

Re: AFT lock cancel button
From the speed of the motor, with my old struts I could have used some regenerative braking on the way down. With new struts ... Difference is much more subtle. Somebody put on uprated struts to compensate for a roof rack system. Couldn't get the roof down when he took the rack off! Suggests it is a reasonably fine balance.rita wrote:Simon Jones wrote:Yes, you're definitely supposed to have the engine running otherwise the battery will struggle to cope with the load. I checked the handbook and it does say the engine should be running when lowering although I've managed without for last 10 years on two different vans. That's using worn struts that have lost some of their oomph over the years.
