Front lower arm

Just bought rhf lower arm from Mazda today, genuine part. Easy to fit or not?

half hour mate, and thats putting the jack and axle stand away.

axle stand under centre of motor, trolley jack under the disc.
when removing the old one crack the rear 2 mounting bolts but leave them holding it up, remove the split pin from the swivel joint castle nut, remove the large nut completely (DONT LOOSEN IT AND LEAVE IT HALF WAY ON THEN SPLIT THE JOINT OR YOU WILL STRUGGLE TO FULLY REMOVE IT AS THE WHOLE JOINT WILL SPIN.). let the jack under the disc down a little so the lower arm is hanging then strike the casting where the swivel joint goes through, the joint will split with its own weight,

Not a difficult job.

Some odd spanner/socket sizes though.

26mm for the castellated nut on the ball joint.

21mm for the nut on the the x member side of the swinging arm.

I done a lower arm on mine last week & the balljoint nut was a 27mm. I remember because I had to buy a spanner for it as I never had one.

How odd...same thing with me as I did not have a 26mm spanner.

Mine came with a new nut that was also 27mm, maybe the originals are 26mm & mine have previously been changed ?

I had teh same - bought a 26mm spanner to take it off, then had to go (by foot!) to get a 27 to put it back on!

2WD is much easier than 4WD due to the CV joint making getting the spanner on/off a ballache, if you are using the ring-spanner end that is.

Mine could have easily lost .5mm each side with rust....

Due to time constraints I got someone to do it for me, I hate paying for stuff I can do but the lad changed the bottom arm and put new front pads in as they were down to the bone for £78 inc. the pads. Not worth me crawling around for that I thought.
The old arm was absolutely knackered.
