Changing front springs

Is it possible to change the front springs without removing the strut?
I was thinking if you remove the front wings you could remove the springs with the bottom of the struts still in place and therefore no need for an alignment check??

Why would you need an alignment check after removing the strut ? if you don't undo the locknut on the track rod end the tracking adjustment should not alter.
