Auto box gear selected lights

Post by cushers » Wed Jun 03, 2015 9:43 am

Simple question this time...

Should a 95 2.5 TD have any lights on the instrument binacle to indicate which gear has been selected?
Have done a search but may not be using the correct key words!

Only the HOLD light (panel top right) when the button on the right hand face of the gearstick has been pressed.

Later models (98-ish onwards) have the gear position on the dash.

The speedo panel comes out quite easily and the the wattage of the various bulbs are in the printed circuit (ie 3W = 3 watt)..

The bulbs are easily obtainable capless the gear position bulb holders are the grey ones ..

Thank you folks.
In that case I won't take the dash out. I'm sure others will find your replies equally helpful.

Once again I am indebted to the collective knowledge of the forum =D>

From memory the dash comes out quite easily ..

Drop the steering wheel as low as possible ..

Remove the screws from the clocks surround ..

Remove the screws holding the white plastic / clocks ..

Pull the clocks forward .. remove the electrical plugs .. (they are all different so you can't mix them up) ..

Image

With a bit of 'wriggling' the clock unit will come out of the dash and past the dropped down steering wheel ..

I put about £20 of petrol in every month or so .. and that grieves me when I 'only' pay 53p a liter for LPG..!!

Thanks Mike. That helps me a lot.

One of my shift lights is out (D) and I have some spare T10 LEDs from a project on my MK1 MX5 :)

To be honest I got the posts mixed up (old age) and this post was actually meant for your 'D' light query !!

Just a tip .. Particularly the 'D' .. you do not want it to bright as it becomes irritating at a night time ..

Also be carefully of some LEDs that are already in the plastic holders .. some times they will not fit .. others the metal contact strip on the back is so sharp you run the risk of tearing the plastic / copper film on the printed circuit ..
