Tailgate rattle
Hey all
Got a hellish rattle coming from the tailgate area. I've silenced all of the moving parts within the tailgate to no avail.
Any one had similar?
Cheers
Tim

Re: Tailgate rattle
Maybe something has fallen off inside rear door
Remove rear inner panels and have a look
Think there is a heat shield over the rear exhaust somewhere
Which has fallen off on some ones maybe yours is half off
Has the towbar split the spot welds underneath and rattling them
Good luck

Re: Tailgate rattle
on the rear door there should be a rubber buffer/bump stop cone at the lower edge/corner, has one of these come off, they just push into a hole.
check the spare wheel tensioner spring, try tightening it slightly or loosening it with the spare wheel bar. dont pull it up too much or you will pull up the floor a little so the catch will go out of adjustment as the floor is very thin.
half way down the rear door is a metal tenon on each side, these align with a mortice in the side of the door frame, these are plastic lined but can rub through and go metal to metal and chatter.

Re: Tailgate rattle
If all else fails try a new door rubber. I just changed my two doors and cannot believe the difference it has made, no wind noise, no rattles and no draughts.
Not cheap mind but well worth it.

Re: Tailgate rattle
Cheers all. Will have a play with the latch and check the seal. The sound appears to be the mechanism bouncing in the door itself as the door monocoque flexes which is odd...
